It used to be this way for me too--pure dread of having to bribe and threaten my kids...and my husband to be honest. BUT, I decided to make things a little different. Instead of begging kids to smile at the camera (don't worry, we will get some of those shots too!), I prefer to get naturally guided poses with emotionally connected people in your images. Prompts help me achieve this and make you feel like a natural in front of the camera!

Have you noticed when you ask your kids to "sit, be still, and smile!", that they don't? That's because they aren't comfortable and it's not a genuine feeling. You may wonder how I get kids to show their precious, genuine smiles and look like they are having fun--it's because they ARE having fun! Playing games, cuddling, telling jokes, and letting the kids be kids during your session is the only way to ensure everyone looks like their true selves in your images.

One of the ways I prepare for sessions is scouting new locations. Whether it's a generational family owned pecan farm, a field off the side of the road, a park with the tallest pine trees, or the middle of a street with old oaks forming a beautiful arched background-wherever we decide, it is special and chosen for your family based on the type of look you want for your session.

The Family Experience
Sessions with me begin with the classic "everyone smile at the camera" poses--ya know, the ones Maw Maw wants to hang above the fireplace. After we accomplish that, we move into the candid portion of the session. This is where we play games like Peek a Boo, Ring Around the Rosy, Red Rover Red Rover under the lace blanket, and Tickle Monster. Guided prompts are just the right recipe to create those natural movements that are so whimsical.
You'll never look back and wish you hadn't taken those photos of your most precious belongings; your loved ones.
If you're looking for a photographer who has experience with children (who may not want to be taking family pictures at all), don't stress...I've got it covered. As a mom of 4, I know a thing or two about the art of distraction.

We will finalize all of the plans in the weeks leading up to your session; meeting time, location, outfits, "must have" shots, if there are any you're dreaming of.
And marshmallows...did you know these work perfectly for treats that aren't messy or noticeable in pictures? Tips like these are included in the email you'll receive. I have learned a few things here and there that make me incredibly equipped to photograph your crew.
Get ready to love on your children and make some memories with them. Expect laughs, playing games, and some intimate images that will make you stop right in your tracks and admire your people.

For hair and makeup, I have a list of trusted creatives who you are welcome to connect with. I can assure you they will make you feel beautiful inside and out. (This is optional, but recommended)
Sessions last up to an hour. I usually start with the posed images and then we move into the fun stuff once everyone has loosened up.

Yay, it's gallery day!
Within about 1 week, you will receive a lightly edited gallery, so that you can get a feel for what your images will look like. From there, you choose your Collection. Once this is completed, I will finish editing your images and send them back to you!
When your images are delivered, you'll see that I offer customized heirloom quality artwork for your home. Whether thats a gallery wall, large prints, or a coffee table album-I've got just the products you need and want.

About a week after your session, you will receive a lightly edited, proofing gallery. In your online gallery, you are able to easily select your favorite images for me to hand edit.
