East Texas Elephant Experience
What in the what?! Did you know you could have a hands on elephant experience without needing a passport or hotel? Just right outside of Houston, lies a chance to interact with a trio of elephants. This Petting Zoo in Houston is not your typical petting zoo with pigs, goats, and chickens. It is an opportunity for culture and experience like no other. They have been in business for 50 years and have 3 elephants that you can hang out with. Jeanie, Krissy, and Paige are the most gorgeous and sweet little (actually, huge!) elephants around. Wild Things Zoofari
With Petting Zoos in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin, there is no reason you can’t make it to this business for some fun! They offer animal shows, reptile encounters and petting zoos so there is literally something for everyone. If you’re worried about the summer Texas heat (I know I am), then an animal show is likely the best route for you. They are all indoors and all the animals wear diapers! Also, how stinking cute is that? (pun intended hah)
Bayou Wildlife Petting Zoo Houston
I have been bringing my kids here for years and there’s a few reasons why. First, they have a drive through safari when you enter and when you leave. Some of the animals come right up to your window, making it a real treat straight from the start of the adventure. Second, they have a really cool tram ride that is for the adventure seekers. Better hold on to your food bucket though, because those animals know the routine and they are expecting to snag some treats quickly! Fair warning, you may get some slobber on you from the drooling furry friends. Lastly, they have their own petting zoo for the little ones. So while the deer roam free on the property, you’ll see some giraffes and pigs and other species inside the Houston petting zoo. Better watch your sandwich though, because the deer will eat it right off the table if you walk away!

Have a child who’s really into the reptile world? Visit the Houston Reptile Expo when it comes to town! This is a great opportunity to learn, touch, and possibly adopt a precious new family member. You will glean some serious knowledge on all things reptiles and amphibians while visiting this event.
